At Troop 520, we believe Scouting should be fun! We also fully embrace the idea that three-fourths of “Scouting” is “outing”!
Established in 2005, Troop 520 is an active, youth-led program in the Northern Trails District of the Chief Seattle Council. Troop 520 is chartered by the Redmond Presbyterian Church (RPC) located at 10020 166th Ave NE, across from Redmond Middle School. RPC is also the Chartered Organization for Cub Scout Pack 578.
Scouts BSA is the traditional Scouting experience where boys and girls can have their share of adventure in the great outdoors. Scouts BSA Troops are single-gender units and Troop 520 is a Troop of boys. Through our Troop, you will develop a love of service by volunteering in your community, boost your leadership skills through fun and exciting challenges, and create memories of a lifetime with no prior Scouting experience required!
It is through first mastering skills, then mentoring and leading younger Scouts, that a Scout builds confidence, learns to shoulder responsibility, and develops leadership skills. We encourage families to be involved in the Scouting experience to participate in and support the Troop.
Youth can join Scouts BSA if they are at least 10 years old, currently in the fifth grade and register on or after March 1st; OR have earned the Arrow of Light Award and are at least 10 years old, OR are age 11 but have not reached age 18.
Troop 520 promotes a culture where everyone feels a sense of belonging and where every person feels respected and valued. Leading by example and encouraging each other to live by the values expressed by the Scout Oath and Scout Law, we welcome families of all backgrounds to help prepare young people to serve as successful members and leaders of our nation’s increasingly diverse communities.
Troop Meetings are held each Monday night at Redmond Presbyterian Church from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM except on holidays or school breaks. (Meeting setup begins at 6:45.) In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances resulting in a meeting cancellation, the Scouts and families will be advised accordingly, either by email or telephone contact.
Scouts attend these meetings with support from the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters. A typical Troop meeting has an opening , some kind of Scout-led presentation, separation into Patrol meetings, games, and a closing that includes acknowledgement of rank advancements.
There are some meetings where families are encouraged to attend:
- Troop Court of Honor
- Monthly committee meetings
- Pre-Summer Camp informational meeting
- Family open house meeting.
